Commonly Asked Questions:

1.     What is Competitive All-Star cheerleading? Competitive All-Star cheerleading has come a long way in the past ten or so years. It used to be not long ago that school cheerleading was the predominant force; all star cheer was solely meant to prepare a student for their school team. But as the sport got more physically demanding, it evolved into more than just pom pons, long skirts, and a cheer. Cheerleading has become what most that are familiar with it, an actual “sport.” Today, all-star cheerleading is done predominantly on spring floors to prevent injuries from the advanced tumbling and stunting that is being performed. Recently, school teams have become competitive also. But they have not yet started using the spring floor which is so important for the safety of the team. This is why All-Star Cheerleading is the safest type of cheerleading. Here at Cheer Universe we pride ourselves in NEVER making our team members use a dead floor with skills that compromise their personal and group safety.

2.     What does a competitive all-star cheer routine entail? A typical routine consists of a cheer, a dance, stunts, tumbling, and jumps. These are all made into a routine that lasts anywhere from two to two and a half minutes long. A routine is normally made by a choreographer that all of the team members pay a small amount to, or it is made by the teams coaches. Before the first competition of the season (which is normally around October or November) each of the team members is expected to have learned their part of the routine and know it like the back of their hand. It is very important that all of the team members are present during practices as well as at the performances. One member missing can mean no routine. This is why Cheerleading is a “team sport”. It involves a high level of commitment, yet it is all paid off with lots of fun times!

3.     Is All-Star Cheerleading a sport? Yes. The physical demands, coordination, and determination that all star cheerleading requires is at or beyond most other sports that exist today. At Cheer Universe, our team members are conditioned and trained similar to that of elite sports like gymnastics, skiing, rock climbing, football, soccer, and many more. We pride ourselves in developing strong, well rounded athletes in every aspect of the word!

4.     Why should I get training for my child? Children under continuous sports training are less likely to develop depression, obesity, and school and/or social problems. They will also learn valuable life lessons that will help them throughout life in whatever they decide to endeavor. They will learn how to work successfully as a team, but most importantly they will learn about themselves through the learned  understanding of Exercise Science and how to stay fit, healthy, and safe. Other lessons students adopt are great work ethics, perseverance, dedication, intrinsic potential, responsibility, motivation, patience, and having a positive outlook in everything they do. And Remember, the most benefit for any sport comes with long term training.

5.     Will All-Star Cheerleading prepare my child for collegiate cheer? Yes, All-Star programs produce nearly all college cheerleaders; and the majority of these are on full or partial scholarships. If you would like more information about colleges and universities offering scholarships, just ask us!

6.     How can I help my child be a better cheerleader? The most important role a parent has in a cheerleader’s career is the positive support that gets them through the times of frustration. Just like any sport, results and skills fluctuate, but are always increasing. To get the most out of your child’s training, the best things you can give them are healthy nutrition and a strict curfew so they have the energy to perform all that they are capable of. But most of all the undying spirit of wanting to achieve something big, and the positive attitude that goes along with it.

7.     Why should I choose Cheer Universe as my child’s athletic provider? We offer the most advanced and SAFEST training available in the Midlands. This is very important because above all you want to know that your child is safe when they come to practice. We teach and enforce safety rules to all of our team members to prevent unnecessary accidents because a student simply “did not know”. CU emphasizes nutrition as an important part in the participation of any physically demanding sport, and encourages proper rest to perform at the highest of one’s ability. Most importantly, the parents and students of our teams have a fun and exciting time at practices and all of our events and competitions. We emphasize that doing our best and hitting our routine is far more important than winning, but it’s always nice when we can bask in the glory of hard work paid off!

8.     Does Cheer Universe LLC organize fundraising? Each season, we ask that parents sign up to be in charge of certain fundraisers. Cheer Universe will not be organizing the fundraisers or collecting the funds, but will assist in finding some that will be profitable for the team.  Some that we would like to partake in this year are Cake sales from Marble Slab ($5 take home each cake sold), krispy kreme donuts, & a carwash.

9.     What other activities besides competitions will the team be participating in? Throughout the season, we may attend parades, cheer for other sports teams, and have parties/banquets.

10. If I have a friend or friends that want to join the team, when is it too late for them to join? We will have individual tryouts throughout the summer, and during the fall as needed. Just ask us and we’ll let you know when these times are available. As always, new students will be placed on a team according to age and ability levels.
